TPC Program Part III - Donations are good
(en francais)

TPC - Part I - I like to get ahead on things
TPC - Part II - Slight of hand

Just to test a theory out, I decided to grab one of TPC's annual reports (2001-2002) and make a list of companies mentioned in the report. Once I compiled the company list, off I went to Bound by Gravity's FANTASTIC Elections Canada Research tool. (quicker and easier than Elections Canada's version IMHO) I did a quick search on the companies listed for the years 2000 to 2004. This doesn't include donations to EDAs or donations by company executives or Board members, only the business/corporation.

Results

Companies Mentioned: 48

Companies donating to the Liberal Party: 23 of 48 - 56% Total Value: $242,460.24

Companies donating to the Conservative Party: 2 of 48 - 4% Total Value: $500.00

Companies donating to the Progressive Conservative Party: 5 of 48 - 10% Total Value: $36,403.62

Companies donating to the Canadian Alliance/Reform Party: 5 of 48 - 10% Total Value: $46,881.00

Companies donating to all other parties: 0

Looks like this program does warrant a little more digging. It will be interesting once I have time to expand this to cover all the years of the program (1996 to present) , all the companies that I can find listed, EDA donations, Board members of the companies and personal donations of company executives. This is just a quick little update. As I go forward I will be creating a more detailed Excel spreadsheet to track all of this.

The journey continues...
