From a Globe and Mail article
Again, coming from a border city, we are all to aware of Mr. Martin's idea of relations with the United States - see HAH! #5
Rest assured - we will not forget the Jack Pack's actions these last few months. And we will do our utmost to make sure the rest of the public doesn't either.
Veteran NDP MP Ed Broadbent has warned that cutting deals with the Liberals has hurt the party in the past, most notably the 1972 minority government. In 1974, the party was decimated at the polls.Coming from a border city with an NDP MP, I just want to reassure Mr Martin and Mr Comartin that we will not let the voters forget the NDP's role in this last session of parliament. It should be interesting to see the answer when they are asked how much of the $4.6 billion has been spent and where is has been spent.
Even with its budget success, the party is polling only about two or three points higher than the 16 per cent it received in last year's election. Some MPs are concerned voters will have forgotten about the NDP's role in the budget by the time the next election comes along.
"There's a very real concern that if too much time elapses between now and the next federal election, people will forget who the honest brokers were that made this Parliament work," NDP MP Pat Martin said. "History has taught us that if the NDP forces the Liberals to act like Liberals, the Liberals get rewarded."
